Fault stability

The Fault Stability module allows to evaluate whether faults and fractures are stable or in a critical stress state, i.e. they can be considered hydraulically conductive. The input information for the analysis is a calibrated 1D geomechanical model and the faults and fractures orientation in space.

The calculation results include:

  • Stress state assessment for each fault or fracture
  • Stability loss conditions for each fault or fracture
  • Location and orientation of critical stress fault or fracture
Using 3D geomechanical modeling methods in GeoTensor, it is possible to evaluate the behavior of faults/fractures when the uneven reservoir pressure changes due to water injection and oil extraction. By combining this information with production data, it is possible to optimize the development scheme and increase the oil recovery coefficient.
